This blog chronicles the miracles and struggles of our daughters, Emily and Olivia. Emily was born 15 weeks early and had many complications, but she continues to amaze us! Olivia, born in China with heart complications, is also beating the odds. She joined her forever family (us!) when she was four years old and has been doing wonderfully! UPDATE: We started homeschooling August 2009 :)

Improving...and new preschool

P.P.S. (added at 6:30 pm) Earlier I tried to take Olivia's pic/video, but she was in an ornery mood. After a long nap, she woke up energized and more like her old self. Here's the spunky girl we know and love:

P.S.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention...one year ago today, March 11, we arrived home from China! Olivia has now been a US citizen for one whole year :)

The antibiotics that we started on Friday did help to perk Olivia up, but five days after our trip to the doctor, she's still not yet fully back to old self. She's been falling asleep for at least two long naps during the day and asking for bed at night, both highly unusual for her. However, she's not nearly as lifeless as she was on Friday, just taking a while to get back to full speed. I knew she was on the mend when she started having an interest in eating, drinking and changing into dance leotards!

She hasn't been to preschool in nearly two weeks, but I'm hoping she'll be raring to go on Thursday. She'll actually be going to a new school, Emily's old one that is part of our school district. I'd hoped that if we got her in this spring they'd be willing to let her stay on in the fall vs. kindergarten, but it looks like they're going to be sticklers about her birth date (inaccurate as it may be)--five-year olds must move on to kindergarten. I wasn't too surprised since we were up against this same policy when we wanted to give Emily the benefit of an extra year before kindergarten... Here we go again. Not sure yet what we'll do in the fall now that that option has been officially ruled out.

Glad to hear Olivia is getting better! I'm sure the pneumonia took a lot out of her....and she'll be back to her sunny, crazy, funny self in a few more days!

J is in the fish room. She loves that school! We just had the K info night last week. I am thinking of doing 1/2 day but my DH wants full day. We'll see...we have to choose by 7/31.

Maybe I'll see you in the carpool lane one morning! Hope she likes her deer teacher and deer friends!

Oh - Northwestern had the program. It was listed in the FCC newsletter (it said 7 yrs and up, but we went and there were several younger children).

Hello Karyn. I am a lifelink family also. I was thinking about your post about Emily starting Kindergarten this fall. I know you would like an extra year of preschool for her, but just think of what special children you have. Who would have thought Emily, only a year ago, would have "caught" up to where she could be entering kindergarten with her normal age level? She has done wonderfully with your family and flourished! Have a great weekend.
